Papi-the Sinner

Thatha was getting bored with everything and was in a pensive mood. Rohan, Maithree and Goldy who were busy with their playing got bored and started fighting. Thatha tried to pacify them and asked them, “Why are you fighting with each other?” Rohan told him, “Thatha, Maithree tells me that “Rohan”, does not mean anything. I told her that
“Maithree does not mean anything. Who is right Thatha?”
Thatha stifled his yawn and told them, “Both of you are not correct. “Rohan” means “rising sun” and “Maithree “means “Friendship”.”
Rohan was happy and started laughing and told, “Thatha, why should some body be called “Friendship”?”
Maithree retorted, “If a boy can be called “rising Sun”, a girl can surely be called “Friendship.”
Thatha replied, “First I will tell you a story and then we will argue about that. In the olden times in the city of Chennai, there was a boy called “Sinner.”. All boys used to tease him for such a silly name. He decided that it is not funny at all to be called as a “sinner.” So he went to his Guru’s place and told him. “Sir, My name is “Sinner” and all people are teasing me because of that. I want to get it changed.” Guru smiled and told, “That is fine my boy. Take a walk and ask a few people their names and come back.
From those names, we would choose a good name to you.” “The boy agreed and went out. Strangely at first he saw a dead body being taken in the street. He went and asked the people, what the name of the dead man is. They said “Ofcourse, his name was “deathless”. “Sinner “was amused and asked “How can a “deathless die? People were amused and told him, “the name is only a label to identify some one. Even if you are called “deathless”, you will die.”
“Sinner “walked further and met two beggars. He asked them their names. They replied, “I am “Goddess of wealth” and he is “Lord of wealth”. “Sinner” asked them, “then why are you begging?” They laughed out and replied, “We are begging because we are not having wealth. Our names are only labels used to identify us.”
“Sinner” walked further and found a man struggling to find his way to the nearest temple.
“Sinner” asked him, “Sir, what is your name?” That man replied” My name is “guide to places.””.
“Sinner went back to his Guru as a changed man. He approached his Guru and told him, “Sir, I do not want my name to be changed. I have understood that name is only a label to identify some one.”
Rohan was the first to speak out, “Thatha, sorry that I quarreled. Now I have understood that names are only labels.”
Goldy replied, “Thatha, I am happy that it is only label. I do not want to be made with gold.”
